Uncle Crocky's 'Hello!' Greeting Card - Story on back
BACK IN STOCK!
'Friend David, I do not think
we shall need a
call bell, as Hello! can be heard
10 to 20 feet away.
What do you think?' -
telegram from Thomas Edison
'Hello' as a word is not as old as you might think. Its first recorded written
use was in 1826, and it was originally used as an expression of surprise
or to call attention. But the telephone - where it wasn’t immediately obvious who was on the other end or what time zone they were in - changed all that, and greetings with no name or time indication caught on. Graham Alexander Bell proposed 'Ahoy!', but it was ‘Hello' that caught people's hearts."
